it's time to try this blogging thing...

**Note: I can't get around explaining things in a long, stream-of-consciousness kind of way, so I've decided that in every post (that isn't a tutorial) I'll have my "Moral of the Story" (a long-story-made-short, if you will) at the very end for those who want an overview without having to read my ramblings.**

I would describe myself as someone with an addictive personality (while also knowing that I have only a vague notion of everything that diagnosis actually encompasses). It seems that I go through phases of my addictions... I'll crochet like mad for a few months, then I decide I want to start a quilt - no, I've never finished one - then I'll try to alter some piece of clothing I own, and then it's fall again and I start making an afghan - at least I've finished a few of those. Don't get me started on my addiction to phone apps... a few months of crossword puzzles, then onto Sudoku, and then Candy Crush Saga ::sigh::

I remember when I saw a post about Pinterest for the first time on Facebook (my preferred social media addiction). Meh, I thought...it seemed to be mostly people liking outfits or shoes. Then I saw people pinning recipes and craty stuff. Hmmm... I thought. Then I noticed people talking about how addicting it is. Danger! I thought. Knowing my propensity for getting addicted to that kind of stuff - and knowing what a procrastinator I am - I decided to steer clear of Pinterest.

But then...

I found Etsy. And while I thought that it would be super addicting, luckily, the site itself was not. It did, however, inspire me to start selling some of the crochet projects that I was already making anyways. So I opened an Etsy shop *shameless self-promotion*. But what good is an Etsy shop without using all of the amazing - and free! - social networking outlets available to me? So I created a Facebook page and Twitter account (@stitchinStina) for the shop. And there Pinterest was, staring me in the face. I knew people were using it as avidly as Facebook and Twitter. This is it... I relented to myself........

and I've been pinning my brains out ever since ::longer sigh::

"Wait, what does any of this have to do with blogging?" you might ask. Well that rather long story brings me to why I started a blog - and if you're into reading a stranger's stream of consciousness, this is the blog for you! See, the reason that I crochet mostly in the fall and winter is because I'm not wearing hats/scarves or using afghans in July. And as it's almost May (time sure does fly) the demand for custom-crocheted goods is relatively low.

And that's where Pinterest comes in.

Of course I've found about 9 billion projects that I want to make/do - damn Pinterest for organizing the internet!! - but I was surprised by how many of the pins were linked to people's blogs... weekend warrior dads, stay-at-home moms, foodie home cooks, so many people blogging! And while I have no shame in posting pics of my projects on Facebook, the tutorial blogs were very alluring to me, and Facebook just isn't formatted to adequately post a whole tutorial, so I need a blog. Also, after wandering onto boards about activities for preschoolers I decided that this must be what all stay-at-home moms like myself do, right?... raise your amazing children, document all the cool stuff you do in a website or blog, and share with the world what a great parent you are while simultaneously making other moms and dads feel guilty that every day isn't full of homemade educational activities - I can't help but feel guilty with all the stuff I've found!

So, in conclusion, my overall addiction to crafting in general means that I will - at some point - get around to some of the awesome projects I've found, and I'm compelled to share my projects/process with others.

Moral of the Story
One of my hobbies led me to open an Etsy shop,
